Job Description:
Engineer - Transmission Origination - P.E.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
§ Assist project development and power marketing teams by providing
assessment of project transmission and interconnection costs, schedules,
processes, and risks early in development of projects and make strategic
recommendations to optimize project value while minimizing risks.
§ Lead effort to interface with ISOs, RTOs, and/or utilities to
initiate, manage and complete generator interconnection and transmission
service studies and agreements, as requested by the development teams.
§ Engage and manage outside consultants for transmission studies
where necessary.
§ Serve as the company’s expert on transmission service in the U.S.
and Canada, including generator interconnection procedures, transmission
service products and procedures, congestion management, nodal markets,
etc. (Broader market experience in market design, ancillary services,
capacity markets, QSEs, etc. is a plus).
§ Assist in making recommendations for the company’s proactive
initiation of, participation in, or reaction to developments in
transmission markets, policy, rules and regulations, etc. (e.g. ERCOT CREZ
zones).
§ For projects where development of significant transmission
infrastructure is a project (not a transmission provider) responsibility,
assist development teams and/or lead upon request the development
activities including conceptual design, permitting, land acquisition,
regulatory approvals, EPC contracting, etc.
§ Serve as an electrical engineering specialist for support of
design and construction activities, especially in the specification of
reactive power equipment.
§ Serve as a resource for operations and asset optimization
activities related to transmission service.
§ Identify and promote transmission investment opportunities for the
company.
EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: (List in order of importance)
§ Minimum bachelors degree in electrical or power engineering,
registered professional engineer a plus.
§ Minimum five (5) years experience interfacing with ISOs, RTOs, and
utilities for interconnection or generation plants or alternatively, five
(5) years experience working for a utility in the transmission engineering
or planning groups.
§ Experience in commercial negotiations for generation
interconnection and transmission service agreements.
§ Familiarity with and network of contracts in a broad range of
transmission markets in the U.S. and Canada.
§ Familiarity with electric power system equipment, and its
manufacturers, designers, constructors, etc.
